Shelly Goldman, owner of eyewear manufacturer Eyeking, has been an active supporter of the Lustgarten Foundation for more than10 years. As a young man in the family business, Shelly says his father Lionel always stressed to him the importance of supporting educational, health and cultural organizations in their community.

Shelly met Marc Lustgarten through a mutual friend at an event at Madison Square Garden. The two men quickly realized they had much in common as they bonded over their love of New York sports. They began socializing with their families and enjoyed attending games at Madison Square Garden together.

Unfortunately, pancreatic cancer became the connection between the two families that will never be broken. In 1997, Shelly learned that his beloved father Lionel had pancreatic cancer and then six months later that his good friend Marc was also diagnosed with the disease. The devastating loss of both men within 16 months of each other inspired Shelly to become an active supporter of the newly formed Lustgarten Foundation.  Shelly says “After the loss of these two important men in my life, I realized that it is essential to live your life every day to the fullest ensuring that there are no regrets. My father was my instructor in life and in turn I have tried to carry on his teachings with my children.  My involvement in the Lustgarten Foundation enables me to honor the tradition of giving back that my father started more than 30 years ago and to remember my friendship with Marc.”

Shelly continues his dad’s tradition.  In 2008, Eyeking launched a “Gifts That Gives Back” campaign where the proceeds of each sale of the Limited Edition Eyeking  creations;  Under Armour Performance Eyewear and Hobie Polarized Sunglasses goes to the Lustgarten Foundation.
