Are you wondering what you can do to help provide hope and inspiration to pancreatic cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic? Do you want to get involved with the Lustgarten Foundation while social distancing at home? Can you see a future where patients have access to earlier detection, more effective treatment options and better outcomes? At the Lustgarten Foundation, that’s what we’re working on every day and we won’t stop until we create a larger community of long-term pancreatic cancer survivors. And neither will our funded researchers, who are some of the best and brightest scientists who are pioneering groundbreaking studies that change patients’ lives.
Today we need your help now more than ever. If you’ve walked with us in the past, organized a community event or made a donation we thank you and ask you to continue supporting our mission by participating in a virtual walk. If you have never walked with us before, now is the time to step up and join a community fiercely committed to raising critical funds to make a difference for pancreatic cancer patients. Remember, when you raise funds for the Lustgarten Foundation, 100 percent of every dollar goes directly to pancreatic cancer research.
What is a virtual walk, exactly? We’re glad you asked! With continued uncertainty around COVID-19 and large gatherings, we’ve decided to make many of our upcoming walks virtual, meaning you can walk and raise funding for pancreatic cancer research from wherever you are and at whatever time you’d like (as long as you’re adhering to your state’s social distancing guidelines). We encourage you to invite your friends, family members and colleagues from near and far to join you to walk and support our research program.
Here are a few ways you can become a virtual walker for the Lustgarten Foundation:
Walk in one of our upcoming virtual walks: We have pancreatic cancer research walks across the country, and because we value your health and wellbeing, we are taking many of our upcoming walks virtual! That means you can participate in any of our upcoming walks from wherever you are on the specified day of the walk. Visit our walk website to see which states have upcoming walks and to register as a virtual walker at one of them. This is a great way to virtually join a friend who may be participating, help a specific team reach its fundraising goal, or just join in on the sense of community an existing walk offers.
Start your own virtual walk: Have you always wanted to start a walk in your neighborhood to raise awareness and funding for pancreatic cancer research? Now is your chance. Registering as a virtual walker in our HOPE From Home campaign is easier than ever and it allows you to create a sense of hope for your own community and the pancreatic cancer community, as well. Once you’ve registered, make sure to pick a date and time, then share it on your social media platforms, email your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to let them know how you are supporting the Lustgarten Foundation. You might be amazed by how your step toward starting a virtual walk inspires them to take action. If you need some help in organizing your virtual walk, our website has lots of tools and resources to help you get started.
Join a team: If you’re not quite ready to start your own walk or you just need some additional motivation, consider joining an existing team as a virtual walker. Although you can’t physically walk together right now, you can still inspire each other and create a sense of community just by walking together but alone at the same time. Remember to register as a virtual walker and share photos and videos from your walk on social media using the hashtags #TogetherAlone, #PancreaticCancer and #PancreaticCancerResearch and tagging the Lustgarten Foundation (@LustgartenFDN).
