Topic: Announcement, Hide on Homepage
Michael Zinner’s life was defined by brilliance and an unwavering commitment to helping others. As founding CEO and Executive Medical Director of the Miami Cancer Institute, he reimagined what cancer care could be, bringing world-class innovation and compassion to patients and families in South Florida and beyond.
A pioneer in pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery, Dr. Zinner shaped the field for decades through his leadership at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Baptist Health Cancer Care. But beyond his remarkable professional achievements, he will be remembered for his kindness and mentorship.

“Dr. Zinner was a thought leader and mentor to me in pancreatic cancer research,” said David Tuveson, MD, PhD, Chief Scientist at the Lustgarten Foundation and Director of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Cancer Center. “Despite our efforts to enroll him in scientifically based clinical trials, he ultimately succumbed to the very disease he dedicated his life to treating. Dr. Zinner did so much to make the world a better place – we will mourn his loss and remain inspired by his character, excellence, and integrity as we continue striving for pancreatic cancer cures.”
After losing his wife, Ronny, to pancreatic cancer, Dr. Zinner became an outspoken advocate for advancing research and improving outcomes for patients. When he faced his own diagnosis in 2024, he approached it with the same grace, strength, and empathy that defined his life and career.

Fourteen months was far too short—but in that time, and throughout his extraordinary life, Dr. Zinner inspired all who knew him. His legacy is one of hope: that with ingenuity and humility we will advance the treatment of this devastating disease. His influence and spirit will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered.
We extend our deepest condolences to his loving partner, Nancy, his family, colleagues, and all who knew him.
